When Isaac started on solids I decided that making his food was the best solution for our family. It allowed me to offer him a wider variety of foods, now exactly what my son was eating, and save a little money too. My son has a very diverse menu of foods and it has been so much fun making new foods and introducing them to him. He is now almost 9 months old. I have find I am in an inbetween stage now with his eating. He is enjoying more and more foods and is able to start chewing (or mashing he only has two teeth) more foods. There are some table foods that I will give him but I am not ready for him to start eating our meals yet. There are still some foods that I won't give him until he is a year and I am also very picky about salt and additives in any food he eats. He eats breakfast with us now - usually an scrambled egg yoke and some fruit or oatmeal and fruit. For lunch and dinner though I am still doing homemade baby foods - he doesn't do purees any more and I have a wide variety of meals I make him. Anyone else make their own baby food? I would love to hear others expierences and get some new fresh ideas on ways to start having him join in on our meals but still stay true to the healthy foods that a I believe a baby needs.

Not anymore but what I tried to do is to give my son as much from our dinner as possible - when ever I was able to put the salt in later, which is in most cases. Herbs and spices were ok, just had to be careful with pepper and curry, etc.

I used to make baby food for my four kiddos- but it has been a few years! There is a lot a little one can eat at 9 mos. old....like peas and carrots (the frozen ones that have been steamed), mac-n-cheese, fruits that have been diced really small, cottage cheese and yogurts, etc.... I made my baby food by either chopping with the small food choppers, or pureeing when they were younger and then freezing into ice cube trays. Then I would put it in ziplock bags, and thaw what I needed. Maybe using the food chopper and chopping the food into larger chunks would be a solution.

I did for my first. I started him at about 7 months old. He refused to eat solids until he was around 9 months old with I gave up on the purees and just fed him off my own plate. With number 2 I didn't even really try until about 9 months and again just fed him off my own plate. I'll do the same with number 3.

I think either making your own or feeding them off your plate is really the best. I find my kids aren't quite so picky as most other kids (though we have our moments... TRUST me! LOL)

I don't fuss either way over the solids. Breast milk is plenty past a year. Before that it's mostly for fun around here.
